When emotions run high, go to the body not to the mind.

Anxiety and other emotions are fed by our thinking. We can get caught in a thinking feeling thinking feeling loop. Thoughts make more of the feeling and the feeling then makes more of the same vein of thought.

To step out of this loop we need to remember we have a body. We need to step out of thinking and inhabit our direct, present moment body experience. We need to anchor ourselves deeply in it. We need to come out of our thinking and into our breath, into our sensations, into our physical senses.

This way we slow the mind, have our focus outside of the narrative, which creates space and eases the feeling.

When we can simply and without judgement, focus on our body sensations, emotion can be safely expressed and released. Like a wave it can pass.

If your body’s experience with intense emotion is too difficult to be with, practice alternating between the not nice sensations and a neutral or even pleasant sensation in the body. Find a part of the body that feels ok/nice. Focus your attention there for five breaths, then go back to the difficult emotional sensation for three/five breaths. Pendulate back and forth.
This gives us a way to gradually feel more safe with yucky feelings, to regulate their intensity and gain some control.

How much stillness and space do you allow to receive and appreciate beauty?

Life is now.
Tomorrow can never make us happy if we can’t recognise and receive life now.

Practice stopping, listening, looking at things as if seeing them for the first time. Take this moment in, feel your breathing, absorb the colours, notice life’s sounds all around, recognise with gratitude what is here right now… including your own presence, awareness, the sense of being, aliveness, simple knowing, reality.

Everyone is spiritual, whether we realise it or not. We are a spirit in human form. We can’t not be spiritual. The difference is, are we awake to it or not?

Spirit/awareness/consciousness/the universe/reality/life…whatever word you want to use… does not depend on or require us to believe in it. It just IS whether we believe or not, and regardless of what philosophy, structure or name we might give it.

Life is prior to names and belief, it is the ground of all unfolding. It had to be there before there was any believer or anything to believe in.

Are we awake to our essential being, there before we think about anything?
What is still here when our mind is empty?

Confusion is sometimes a smoke screen of protection and procrastination against what we know we need to do.

Our psyche has so many unconscious ways it tries to protect us from our fears and from pain. Even the experience of being in a state of confusion over something, can be an unconscious attempt at avoidance.

There’s that sense sometimes that a deep part of us knows what we’re going to have to face on some level, and yet somehow perhaps we feel we can gain or stall time by pretending we don’t know… So convincingly, that we genuinely lose clarity, strength and will.
Which in turn is another state of suffering in itself.

Aren’t we strange human creatures 🤔😶‍🌫️🤪

Trust.

There’s nothing wrong.

It’s all a part of it.

Refining and refining.

Including and including.

Expanding and expanding.

You can never stray.

It’s all in the hands of grace.
